Eh bien, c’est déjà terminé! Un autre grand Festival Terra Incognita de 3 jours qui s’est terminé dimanche par une excellente performance par nul autre que Sylvan! 12 mois d’attente pour ce festival unique au Québec et qui à chaque année, nous propose une brochette d’artiste qui n’est pas à envier aucun autre festival. Premièrement, avant de débuter, remercions du fond du cœur, l’homme en arrière de cet évènement annuel, nul autre que notre chère ami MICHEL BILODEAU. Tu nous fais vivre de très beaux moments et nous en sommes très reconnaissants.

Well, it's already over! Another great 3-day Terra Incognita Festival which was ended Sunday by a stellar performance by none other than Sylvan! 12 months of waiting for this unique festival in Quebec City which, each year, offers us a roster of artists who are not to envy any other festival. For starters, thank you from the bottom of our heart to the man behind this annual event, none other than our dear friend MICHEL BILODEAU. You do make us live some beautiful moments and we are very thankful.

Vendredi 20 mai

Ce week-end a débuté vendredi par un hommage à Pink Floyd Revisited fait par le très talentueux groupe allemand RPWL. Ils ont recréé un des premiers concerts concept du Floyd appelé « The Man et The Journey » (1969). L’aura psychédélique était bien recréée par la présence d’animations vintage tel que le coffre à outil et des images diffusées sur les écrans pendant que la musique jouait ! Pas besoin de quoi que ce soit pour planer! Le groupe a ensuite ajouté quelques chansons qui sont apparus sur des albums futures tels que : Dark Side Of The Moon et Wish You Were Here, pour n’en nommer que deux. Le charisme des musiciens, l’humour, le talent et la qualité musicale hors pair lance les festivités de ce festival s’annonçant très coloré. Spectacle mémorable en hommage à un groupe légendaire que tous devraient avoir la chance de voir au moins une fois dans une vie !

This weekend started Friday by a Pink Floyd Revisited tribute made by the German band RPWL. They recreated one of the first Floyd concept concerts called The Man And The Journey (1969). The psychedelic aura was well recreated by having vintage animations, such as using a tool box to recreate the sounds, and images shot on screens as the music played! No need for taking anything to get high! The band then added a few songs which appeared on albums afterwards (from Dark Side... to Wish You Were Here, to name just a few). The charisma of the talented musicians, their humor, and the unparalleled musical quality launched the festivities of what would be a very colourful weekend! This 1969 concert, originally made by the legendary band, was a memorable tribute that everyone should have the chance to see at least once in a lifetime.

Samedi 21 mai

La journée de samedi a débuté par un spectacle-surprise par l’Israélien, maintenant résident de Boston, Gadi Caplan qui était sur place afin de promouvoir sa dernière création « Morning Sun » dont la sortie est prévue dans quelques semaines. Gadi en était à sa deuxième présence à Terra Incognita lui qui, en 2014, était venu électriser l’entrée de la salle de spectacle entre les concerts. Malgré son apparence « Jeune », Gadi est un artiste accompli et ces trois albums méritent toute notre attention et respect. Cette mini présentation fut un régal absolu pour nos oreilles alors qu’il s’est présenté seul sur la scène avec comme accompagnement, sa guitare acoustique et ses harmonies. Quelle belle manière de débuter cette belle journée ensoleillée! Saturday began with a surprise performance by Israel-born Bostonian Gadi Caplan who was here to promote his latest creation «Morning Sun» which is due out in a couple of weeks. Coming to the Terra Incognita Festival for the 2nd time, Gadi first visited us in 2014, electrifying the audience in the auditorium between concerts. Despite his young appearance, Gadi is an accomplished artist and these three albums all deserve our attention and respect. This mini presentation was an absolute treat for our ears while he took the stage alone with his acoustic guitar and harmonies accompaniment. What a great way to start this beautiful sunny day! On your next visit Gadi, please bring more CD’s for sale (you can listen to our 8 minute interview in order to learn a little bit more about him and what he thinks of we, the Quebec City audience)!

Est venu jouer ensuite notre groupe « maison » Inner Odyssey avec un alignement de musiciens modifié et comment amélioré! Fort de 2 albums, Vincent Leboeuf et sa bande, au plus grand plaisir de tous, nous ont donné le privilège d’entendre du tout nouveau matériel qui devrait sortir au courant de l’année prochaine. Déjà que la musique D’Inner Odyssey était de calibre avec ce qui se fait de mieux à notre époque, c’est avec une présence sur scène impeccable et du matériel professionnel que ceux-ci élèvent la barre de plusieurs crans. Pour en ajouter un peu, en plus de leur propre matériel, ils nous ont offert « Discard Your Fear » de Riverside en hommage au guitariste décédé plus tôt cette année. Il ne va pas sans prédire qu’ils feront entendre d’eux partout sur la planète Prog dans les prochaines années et ce fut un plaisir immense de les voir et entendre à nouveau lors de ce festival. Les gars (et fille), vous nous avez rendu très fiers et nous avons hâte de vous suivre dans vos projets futures.

Next came our 'home' band Inner Odyssey with a modified but how ameliorated lineup! Having 2 albums already out, Vincent Leboeuf and his band gave us the privilege of listening to brand new material which should come out sometime next year. Their music being already of the high standards of today’s big performers, they came on stage with lots of confidence (even though it was the first time the new lineup performed on stage together) and gave us an impeccable show and even added a cover of the Riverside’s song «Discard Your Fear» in tribute to the deceased guitarist Piotr Grudzinski. Awesome! We can predict that they surely will be heard everywhere on the Prog planet in the coming years and it was a pleasure to see and hear you again during this festival. You guys (and girl) have made us very proud and we look forward in accompanying you in your future projects.

Venait ensuite le groupe écossais/anglais de six musiciens Abel Ganz qui, accompagné de pas moins de 3 guitares tout au long du concert, nous offrait une performance impeccable. Ce groupe qui, au fil des années, a rajeuni leur sons, nous ont joué majoritairement des chansons de leur dernier album sorti en 2014. Ils ont animé ce début de soirée admirablement bien grâce à leur dynamisme sur scène, leur joie de performer ensemble et un vocal juste et technique. Que dire de cette présentation de « Unconditional » qui au plaisir de tous, illuminait cette petite salle de 200 places mais combien énergique! Ce magnifique concert s’est terminé sur les notes de l’excellente chanson « Thank You » alors que tous ce sont transposés comme chanteurs et ont partagés ce dernier « Thank You » avec le groupe. Quel beau moment inoubliable !

Then the Scots/English group Abel Ganz, made up of six musicians (3 guitarists!), offered us an impeccable performance. This group which, over the years, has rejuvenated their sound, played mostly songs from their latest album released in 2014. They entertained us pretty well this early evening thanks to their dynamism onstage, their joy of playing together and great, technically-sung songs. The song "Unconditional" was enjoyed by all, lighting up the entire 300-place small room with so much energy! This magnificent concert ended on the notes of the excellent song 'Thank You' when the audience became the singers and shared the last 'Thank You' with the band. Beautiful moment!

complète discographie. Le charismatique chanteur Yogi Lang est toujours aussi agréable à écouter et regarder lorsqu’il explique avec humour l’origine ou le noyau de chaque morceau joué. Communicatif et possédant un sens musical raffiné, RPWL nous ont comblés par leur talent et leur présence sur scène. Les commentaires d’après spectacles étaient unanimes et se résumaient en un seul mot… « WOW » Suis-je le seul à m’être aperçu que nombreuse étaient la gente féminine à n’avoir que de yeux pour le guitariste et bassiste J ? Nous avons quitté la chapelle ce soir-là avec le sourire aux lèvres et anticipions avec hâte et excitation la journée du lendemain ! Quelle journée mémorable ce fut !

The evening ended with another strong performance of RPWL who this time shared with us songs from their extensive discography. Singer Yogi Lang is always as enjoyable as he explains with humor the origins or nucleus of each song played. Communicative and possessing a refined musicianship, RPWL have fulfilled us with their talent and their stage presence. The comments within shows were unanimous and are summed up in one word... 'WOW'. Am I the only one to notice that the ladies had eyes for the guitarist and bassist? J We left the small chapel that night with huge smiles on our faces after such a day and anticipated with eagerness and excitement the day after! What a memorable day!!

Dimanche 22 mai

Dimanche a débuté par une autre performance surprise: cette fois-ci par le néerlandais d’origine Anton Roolaart, accompagné au piano par nul autre que Rave Tesar, claviériste de Renaissance! Le duo nous a donné un spectacle intime, doux, mélodique et combien agréable! Anton, qui lui aussi en était à sa deuxième présence à Terra Incognita s’est permit des chansons tirées de ces deux excellents albums solo pour lesquels une ovation debout lui fut offert. Présents pendant toute la fin de semaine, les deux hommes nous ont comblés par leur humour et leur impressionnant bagage. Qui sait, peut-être auront nous la chance, dans les prochaines années, d’accueillir le groupe en entier ! Filmé lors du festival, l’entrevue qui suit vous donnera la chance de connaître ce que nous pouvons nous attendre d’Anton Roolaart et Rave Tesar avec leurs futurs projets respectifs. Sunday began with another surprise performance: this time by the Dutch-born New Yorker Anton Roolaart, accompanied at the piano by none other than Rave Tesar, keyboardist of Renaissance fame! The duo gave us an intimate, soft, melodic show and how enjoyable it was! Anton, who also was at his second presence at Terra Incognita, offered us songs from his two excellent solo albums and each song was met with a standing ovation. Attending the Festival for the whole weekend, the two men mingled with the crowd in the auditorium and entertained us with their humor and their impressive musical baggage. Who knows, maybe we’ll have the chance and honor in the next years of hosting the entire group of either Anton or M.Tesar! Filmed during the festival, the following interview will give you the chance to know what we can expect of Anton Roolaart and Rave Tesar on their respective future projects. La performance suivante a été donnée par le groupe originaire de Richmond, en Virginie, Kinetic Element. Doté de musiciens extrêmement polyvalents et talentueux, le groupe américain nous offrait des chansons tirés de leurs deux albums ; Powered By Light et Travelog. N’ayant pas beaucoup eu la chance de se produire sur scène depuis la sortie de leur dernier album, l’excellent claviériste Mike Visagio et sa bande se sont offerts à l’audience désirant faire vivre l’expérience virtuose KINETIC et ils ont livré la marchandise. Ceux qui ne connaissaient pas KE se sont dit ravit d’expérimenter une partie de leur répertoire et se promettent de garder un œil sur le groupe américain pour la suite des choses! Aussi présents lors de la fin de semaine en entier, les membres du groupe n’ont pas hésité à faire connaissance avec les fans et ont partagés avoir été émerveillés par l’audience majoritairement Québécoise, de leurs écoute attentive et leurs connaissance impressionnante de la musique Progressive. Grande musicalité! Neo-Prog bien livré!

Following Anton and M.Tesar was the Richmond, Virginia-based band Kinetic Element. The extremely versatile and talented American Band offered us songs from their two albums Powered By Light and Travelog. Not having much opportunity to perform on stage since the release of their latest album, keyboardist Mike Visagio and his band gave themselves away to the audience who was more than willing to experience the KINETIC experience and they delivered the goods! Those who hadn’t heard of KINETIC ELEMENT before were delighted and promised to keep an eye on the American band from

now on! Being also present during the entire weekend, members of the group have not hesitated to get acquainted with the fans and have shared with us being amazed by the Quebec audience, their attentiveness and their impressive knowledge of progressive music...Neo-Prog well delivered! Great musicianship!

Suivant Kinetic Element, la relève du Prog italien : Unreal City, qui est monté sur scène et nous a littéralement coupé le souffle! Alors que pour plusieurs, ils assistaient à un deuxième concert de ce jeune groupe italien en deux ans, pour d’autres, c’était une toute première. Peu importe, les commentaires furent unanimement positifs. Ils nous ont décoiffés avec une performance plus que mémorable et pour certain, incomparable! La fusion entre le vieux Prog traditionnel à la manière italienne, accompagné du Neo-Prog actuel et l’attitude extravagante et plus grande que nature d’Emanuele Tarasconi font de ce groupe l’un des plus prometteur que nous ayons eu la chance de recevoir sur cette scène. Ils nous ont offerts une performance époustouflante et l’audience leurs ont remis la monnaie en les ovationnant à chacune de leurs prestations. Comme diront certain, c’était du bombons pour les oreilles et il ne va sans dire qu’ils ont conquis le cœur de plusieurs d’entre nous !

Following Kinetic Element came the successors to the Italian-Prog scene Unreal City, who took on the stage and immediately blew every one of us away! Many of us were seeing them for the second time in two years while, for others, it was a first. Regardless, the reviews from the crowd were unanimously positive! The young band gave it all away in a more than memorable performance! The fusion of old traditional Prog with the Neo-Prog and the bigger-than-life extravaganza attitude of Emanuele Tarasconi is a sure winner and makes this group one of the most promising band that we had the chance to welcome on this scene. They have offered us a breathtaking concert and I believe that the audience responded well by giving them a standing ovation between each song! As some may say it was candy for the ears and it goes without saying that they have (re)conquered the hearts of many of us!! A must-hear and must-see!

Malheureusement, toute bonne chose à une fin… Le week-end s’est terminé par une excellente et impressionnante performance du groupe allemand ; Sylvan, qui en était à sa première visite au Canada. Que dire de ce chanteur doté d’une polyvalence remarquable, d’une prestance assurée et d’une voix unique et douée ? Que dire de ce claviériste aguéri et cette guitare à la David Gilmour ? Pour une grande partie de l’audience, la prestation générale de Sylvan se peint comme étant le clou de ce festival. Doté d’un son progressif avec influences alternatives, le groupe est monté sur scène sûre de lui et ce seul concert pouvait justifier le prix du billet d’entrée. Très bon communicateur en français, Marco Glühmann ne s’est pas limiter qu’à chanter mais nous a animer tout au long du spectacle par son humour et son charisme. Il ne va sans dire que cette performance restera longtemps graver dans la mémoire de plusieurs!

Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end... The weekend ended by a great performance by the German band Sylvan who were in Canada for the first time. With a versatile singer who takes on the stage with an assured poise and a unique and talented voice, an accomplished keyboardist and a David Gilmour-style guitarist, Sylvan was chosen by many as the highlight of this festival. Featuring a progressive sound with alternative influences, the band climbed on stage in full confidence and this concert could easily justify the price of our ticket. Being a very good communicator in French, Marco Glühmann not only sang but entertained us throughout the show with his humor and charisma. It goes without saying that this performance will remain in the memory of many for a long time!

Nous avons été, encore cette année, privilégiés par la présence d’une telle variété d’artistes s’assurant de faire vibrer les murs de cette petite salle. Certains diront que cette dernière est trop petite mais, certes, elle nous offre des spectacles de Prog intime où la proximité et le respect entre les fans et les artistes ne peut être égalée. Pour la grande majorité d’entre nous qui avons participé à d’autres festivals et concerts, Terra Incognita se veut comme étant un endroit unique, amicale et un lieu de rencontre privilégiés par ceux qui, comme nous, respirons la musique progressive à grand poumons ! Certes, cette aventure n’égale rien qui se fait ailleurs et il s’agit d’un festival dont nous pouvons en être fiers! (Simplement demander aux artistes ce qu’ils en pensent.) Un petit merci tout spécial à Christian Simard de Morse Code qui nous a fait l'honneur de sa présence ! Chapeau à nouveau à l’organisateur Michel Bilodeau, qui a fait des miracles pour la 12ème année de suite! Merci et en espérant un tout nouveau festival en 2017.

We were once more privileged by having such a variety of artists come to shake the walls of our small chapel and give us something which was much more than our money's worth! Some would say that it is too small but it certainly offers us intimate Prog performances where the proximity and the respect between the fans and the artists cannot be matched. For the vast majority of us who have attended other festivals and concerts, Terra Incognita is a place unique, friendly and a meeting place preferred by those who breathe very deeply the progressive music air! No other festival is quite the same elsewhere and we can be proud of it! (Just ask the artists what they think!) A special thanks to Morse Code's Christian Simard who accepted to be present and share ! Hats off again to the organizer Michel Bilodeau who accomplished miracles for the 12th year; we anxiously wait for 2017! Cheers!
