French progressive rock outfit SSB – Sloane Square Band release “Adding Life”, unveiling the first single from their forthcoming studio album UNKNOWN, scheduled for release in spring 2027.
Featuring an exceptional international line-up of guest musicians, including Guy Pratt (Pink Floyd, David Gilmour) on bass and John Mitchell (Asia, Arena, Lonely Robot,*Frost) on guitar, “Adding Life” is an emotionally powerful and deeply human piece that explores the fragile relationship between time, mortality, hope and the meaning we give to each moment.
Written and composed by Claude Segalin, with arrangements by Philippe Kalfon and Thierry Dagnicourt, the song is built around a simple but profound idea: we may not be able to extend the amount of time we have, but we can choose how we fill it.
The title itself echoes the song’s central message. As Claude Segalin puts it, “You can’t add days to life — but you can add life to every day.” This simple yet powerful philosophy shifts the focus away from measuring life purely in terms of duration and towards making every moment meaningful.
Musically, Guy Pratt’s distinctive bass playing provides a strong and fluid foundation, while Philippe Kalfon and John Mitchell bring contrasting yet complementary guitar voices to the arrangement. Bob Saliba’s vocal performance adds a powerful emotional dimension, delivering the lyrics with both vulnerability and intensity.
The track features:
Claude Segalin — Guitar
Bob Saliba — Vocals
Philippe Kalfon — Guitar
John Mitchell — Guitar (second solo)
Guy Pratt — Bass
Franck Ricader — Drums
SSB – Sloane Square Band traces its roots back to 1972, when guitarist, songwriter and composer Claude Segalin founded the group as Sloane. He went on to compose the rock opera GUELF in 1974, performed across France, before the band’s first chapter ended in 1978.
The project was revived in 2016, leading to a new line-up and a return to the stage in 2017. In 2021, the band became SSB – Sloane Square Band and revisited GUELF, reconnecting the modern group with its 1970s roots.
SSB released the studio album Thoughts in 2024, featuring an impressive line-up of guests including Guy Pratt and Joniece Jamison. In 2025, the band underwent a major restructuring before releasing Studio Live Session, followed by performances in Paris and London. The album was named “Best Progressive Rock Live Album of 2025” by Via Nocturna.
In 2026, SSB released Live in Avignon and began work on its next studio album, UNKNOWN. “Adding Life” marks the beginning of this new chapter.
